Pike Musky Sink 8 Breakdown

Our Specialty Series Pike Musky Sink 8 features a 30 ft. type 8 sinking head with a short 3 ft. front taper for turning over large, air-resistant flies. The short 3 ft. back taper helps load this line quickly and makes it extremely shootable. Intermediate running line removes any hinges in the line and gives you a smooth transition into the depths. This line is built overweighted to load fast, powerful rods.

This dual colored line features our low stretch braided nylon core for consistent, powerful hook sets and ultimate stopping power. Our signature Shooting Technology keeps your line remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The black and olive color combination distinguishes taper change and is traceable yet stealthy in Esox environments.

FAQ

Our Pike Musky fly lines are built to perform in both cold and warm water environments. This line will perform best in temperatures between 30 and 70 degrees (F).

The taper design for our Pike Musky Lines were built overly aggressive to cast large flies and punch through wind. The short body and short rear taper allows for minimal false casts while achieving maximum distance. The short front taper will turn over any large fly or weighted pattern with ease. This line is built overweighted for quick loading and fast shooting.

The black and olive color combination distinguishes taper change and proper loading point. These colors are stealthy yet traceable in freshwater environments.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Amazing line

It gets down to the strike zone in heavy current . Shoots amazingly! The taper is perfect! I am a guide and extremely ruff on my lines so I definitely recommend them. They hold up great. I completely trust the loop for heavy fish.

Throwing Giant flies made easy

This line casts the biggest flies I can tie with relative ease. Slips through guides nicely without carving grooves. The best part is you can get a big bulky deer hair articulated streamer into the zone super fast with this epic sink. This line tangles less thank leading competitors in the market which makes a long day of casting just that much more enjoyable. If you’re chasing Muskies in deeper holes Cortland lines nailed this one!

When you are chasing apex predators like pike, musky, and trophy bass, the game often changes when you leave the shallows. The biggest fish frequently hold in the deeper columns of lakes and rivers, safe from surface disturbances and easy prey. To reach them, you need more than just a heavy fly; you need a delivery system engineered for the task. The Specialty Series Pike Musky Sink 8 is that system, meticulously designed to drag bulky, air-resistant flies down into the strike zone quickly and efficiently. This line is built for the angler who refuses to be limited by depth. Whether you are dredging deep river channels in late autumn or scanning drop-offs in a vast lake, this line gives you the control necessary to put your fly right on the nose of a lurking monster.

Get Down Fast, Stay Down Deep

The heart of this line is its aggressive Type 8 sinking head. Measuring 30 feet in length, this head sinks at a rapid rate of 8 to 8.5 inches per second (IPS). This isn't a line for casual drifting; it is a tool for getting deep fast. By pulling your fly down rapidly, it maximizes the time your lure spends in the productive zone, rather than wasting valuable retrieve time waiting for a lighter line to settle. Behind the head lies an intermediate running line. This design choice is crucial for maintaining a direct connection to your fly. While the head plunges, the intermediate running line follows without creating the severe belly or hinge effect often seen with full floating running lines. This means when a fish strikes deep, you feel it instantly, and your strip-set transfers power directly to the hook point.

Built for the Brutal Fight

Pike and musky fishing places immense stress on your gear. From casting massive streamers to fighting fish that can weigh over 30 pounds, every component must be fail-safe. The Pike Musky Sink 8 features an X-Strong Core constructed from a tight weave of braided nylon multifilament. This high pick count ensures extreme durability and maximum applied pressure, giving you the confidence to turn a fish’s head before it dives into heavy cover. Furthermore, the line is engineered to perform across a wide range of temperatures. Whether you are fishing in the freezing cold of late season (down to 30°F) or the milder days of spring (up to 70°F), the core and coating remain manageable. You won't have to battle coils or stiffness when the mercury drops.

Slick Performance and Easy Rigging

Casting big flies all day is physically demanding. To reduce fatigue and increase efficiency, we’ve applied our signature Shooting Technology (ST) coating. This creates a glass-smooth finish that significantly reduces friction against your rod guides. The result is a line that shoots fast and slick, allowing you to cover more water with fewer false casts. Rigging is made fast, easy, and reliable with Dual Welded Loops on both ends of the line. These loops are strong and secure, allowing for quick leader changes without the bulk of knots, ensuring a smooth transition through the guides when landing a fish.
